2004 Boston Society of Landscape Architects Merit Award
This project developed an affordable housing site with 20 units available to first time homebuyers, private market and the Newton Housing Authority as permanent rentals.
Our objectives were to create an identifiable neighborhood that would continue the residential character of Crescent Street and to maximize green space with diversified planting. Each housing unit has its own front and back yard with a gathering space on site for the entire complex. A new street was developed with on-street parking and direct access to all the units. Since this site borders the Mass Turnpike, a sound barrier was constructed between the highway and housing site.
