2004 Boston Society of Landscape Architects Merit Award
One of the main goals of the new design was to create a safe park and change its institutional character to a park-like character in scale with the renovated housing so that all neighbors would enjoy the park. In addition we upgraded the formal recreational facilities. New meandering paths, mounded lawns and a variety of trees provide a pleasant stroll around the park and fields.
In addressing safety issues, views into the park were opened up. Existing trees were thinned out and trimmed up to provide easy visibility into the site. New lighting for all areas of the park was added. The park edges were softened with ornamental fencing, low mounding, and informal planting. These new elements reflect the scale and materials of the recently renovated surrounding housing.
